I have verified that the sound card is the issue by the use of 2 different computers. here's the problem:

when I plug my pci soundcard (soundblaster16), it completely disables my computer's ability to display anything. the signal to the monitor is severed somehow. once removed, the problem goes away. what's going on here? by the way, on both computers, the display is agp...

you must try another sound card, which will tell you that the soundblaster is mebbe no good.

well, I spent the 30$ to replace the old soundcard (which was the problem)

I just thought it was a very strange problem and was wondering if anyone had any insight as to why anything plugged into a pci port would affect the agp

If it was a bad card it probably just conflicted somehow, maybe caused an electrical problem on the motherboards or something.

hmm, maybe the sound card is overloading your power supply ?
