sound card trouble

Hi everyone
I am haveing a problem with my soundcard. Its a weird problem. It seems that my microphone on my pc doesnt work... at all. I dunno if my sound card is going or if it is just a driver problem because the speakers work fine. It is just the microphone that doesnt work. Yes, i have tried another microphone and had the same problem and hooked my microphone up to a good computer and it works. So its not the microphone. Yes, my soundcard is intergrated and yes my pci bus does have an open slot incase it did go. Any ideas?

 

Check your settings maybe your Mic is muted ( control pannel /sounds something like that, my pc has onboard sound my settings are accesibile in control pannel in Nvida Nforce Control pannel)

If that's not it, might R&R sound drivers.

 

Yes i have checked all of that. The card is on the windows default which is intel intergrated sound or something like that and i did install a driver for it from my motherboard software cd but it was comeing up with some weird error and i wasnt even getting any sound so i took it back off. Sunday im gonna get a new sound card and put that in and see if the sound card itself is going out. (Found it for 15 bucks in some tech shop near where i live ) I will write back to tell you if it works or not.

 

go to control panel and double click the icon (applet) of sound/multimedia.. then click advance and make sure you didn't turn off ( or mute) the ability of your sound card at the microphone panel...

I checked the volume controlls and everything is up all the way.

 

hmmm... I dont know... maybe you should checkin out a new sound card??? or... perhaps.. before that, try to swap the sound card with other computer nearby?

 

yeah true k1dz but the one problem with that is that my sound card is intergrated and i have no old one laying around to throw in there to try. Maybe i will make a trip to the tech shop nearby to buy the 15 dollar card i saw in there. Just hope it doesnt screw up my pci by blowing up or something lol. Theres another guy on here who bought a cheap sound card and thats exactly what happened to him with it. Ok well y i might buy it today. I will let you know if anything comes up.

 

I just had another idea, maybe scince the sound card is running on the default driver provided by windows, maybe that is messed up. Would it help maybe if i ran a system repair? Only thing is i dont feel like going through all that for a sound card. Does anyone think itll help maybe?

 

hmmm... honestly, i dont know either it can solve it or not. but why not give it a try??

by the way... Creative is supreme designer for its q'lity sound cards among others.. in case you wantd to have a new one

 

I dunno really. My uncle knows more than i with computers and is comin to look at it today and after all i got a replacement just in case for 15 bucks so i dont think it is worth it because i dont feel like sitting here for hours on end installing 12 million windows updates. So i might just drop the new one in. Tell ya what happens when i figure this thing out.

 

Yup k1dz it was the card. I plugged in my 15 dollar one and it works like a charm. So...problem solved

Yeah now this is really nuts in my pc if im not haave trouble with windows its linux and not linux, windows or both! Cause when i booted in linux today it detected the soundcard and asked me some question about which driver to use or something like that and it had a list of two and the card says it is compatible with linux but when i went through with it it is not giveing my any sound at all. Is there any way i can fix this? (PS: it is working fine in windows)

honestly... i dont think any1 can help you here coz its depends on the Sound cards manufacturer either they are providing linux hardware support or not.. so, you have to find out from the net and search for its driver for linux system...

oh ok thanks kidz it is made by ezmedia and it is a 4.1 channel card. I thik i know what will help me. An install program for linux (eg installsheild for windows). So if anyone can give me a link to where i can find a file for it and install instructions that would be very helpful. Thanks for all the help,

Well i went into linux and played around with it for a little while then got fedup and left it and went back to windows. Then today i walked away from the computer for a few minutes cause windows had to do some scandisk thing and while i was away my system rebooted went to lilo (theres a timer that will make it boot to linux if im not there to boot windows) it went into linux and i logged into linux and started playing some games. To my surprise, the soundcard is working perfectly fine and there are no problems. I probably just had to reboot after setting it up. Well all is fine and the sound trouble is gone. Go check out my other post and see if you can help me with a messed up game. Thanks for the help k1dz
