I tried to install a pci sound card with no luck so I uninstalled it and plugged back into my on board (motherboard). When I try to use the sound I get messages like,no sound device installed,no mixer installed.I am not sure what sound device refers to. Where do I go to find them? I have a celeron 1.2g with xp home. TIA.

Sound Device refers to the pci card you are installing,,,uninstall what you have done,,,,turn off system plug in the pci card and boot up and let windows detect new hardware and install windows drivers,,before it will see the card,,Hope this helps. Glenn :)

Did you get Driver disk with Sound Card? if so use that as it will have all the drivers you need like Mixer etc etc

as Spinnster said check that location but also in the same Sound and Audio Devices menus check Audio > Default Device and what does it have listed in the drop down box?

if you dont have it then tell us what card you have exactly include model number and we should be able to link you up with appropreate soundcard software.

I don't have icon in the control or in the task bar. I checked in all programs>sytem tools no system diagnostic ,where do I find it? I have lost system files, applications and icons. Think I have a trojan or something. The instructions for the sound card said to turn off onboard sound card,I checked in the bios but did not see a setting for it. Thanks.

    Need to know the following:

    • What version of Windows and DirectX you have installed
    • Model and Manufacturer of the soundcard
    • If possible, the model and manufacturer of your motherboard.

You said it doesn't have a setting in BIOS to disable onboard sound, but that doesn't mean it's not there. Look on the back of your pc, near where you plug in your kb + mouse to see if there are sound jacks. If there are, then they're probably controlled by a jumper.

From what I can see is that Asus made that board for HP, and doesn't support it as there's no information to it on asus.com

Do you know if there's any documentation for it on HP's site?

The manual for your soundcard says to remove your modem before physically installing the sound card and drivers... I'd uninstall whatever drivers and software you got with the new sound card, power down and then pull out the modem if you have one. If you don't, then disregard. Physically install the sound card, power up, and install the drivers that came with the sound card. Then go into your device manager, and check to see if your card is properly represented in there and that you have a speaker icon in the systray. At that point I'd disable your onboard sound by right clicking the original sound device and selecting properties, and then select Disable Hardware.

From there, I'd power down again and reinstall your modem. Hopefully that works for you, I had to go through something similar with my Hercules card :\
