i think i am having some sort of conflict.

i run windows xp pro i have a gigabyte k8ns ultra mobo. it has the ac97 realtek i have downloaded the drivers from the sight but yet i think i have the drivers that came from nforce also installed. i don't see a way of uninstalling the nforce drivers except for all at once.

the main problem i am having is i have a mic/headset and the mic works just not on my comp i have check several places and it is not muted but won't work. i also have some sort of sound effect turned on somewhere i am unable to locate as in some games the music is fine but certain sounds sound as if they are in a very small room thta echos a lot.

    any ideas?

You would need both the nForce drivers are the chipset drivers and the Realtek AC97s are for sound,

Drivers ( make sure you dont download the XP 64bit ones )

Check all of the settings in Control Panel > Sounds and Devices are both set to your realtek sound device and by them are volume buttons click them and double check they are all not muted or set to low.

also to check you have no other issues, in control panel goto System > Hardware > Device Manager and look for any yellow ! marks

as to distorted sound, have you made sure its not the speakers at fault? try another set if possible.

Their is also a fair bit of info from page 63 of manual on setting up sound.

you probably have Sound Manager installed with that set up. Make sure that the mic is enabled in both that and the windows sound controller. SM is probably where your echo is coming from. I have the K8NS Pro with Athlon64 3500+ Nforce3 and Realtec97 also.

i have sound manager also yes, from what i can tell the mic is set up properly with it however it shows no sound effects on yet there is. still somewhat puzzled by this.
