    HI

Would love to help you but SONY tend to have proprietory drivers for hardware, even if that audio chip comes from Yamaha so the Yamaha drivers tend to not work, problem is I searched fo rages to find drivers from Sony, but as that Laptop seems a Japanese sold one the only site likely to have drivers is the Sony Support Japan area and as my Japanese is non-existant I'm lost as to the menus.

So try searching Sony Japan for for model Laptop and hopefully they have a page with downloadable drivers here http://www.vaio.sony.co.jp/

I looked high and low, and found a driver pack at the Sony UK web site for a different model that has the same sound chip as you have in your laptop. However, the driver is for Windows 2000, but it should work for Windows XP. Click this link and a license agreement will open, click the "Accept" button and the driver pack will download as a zip file. Unzip it and use the included "Audio" driver. It's an older laptop, and older drivers, and I think the drivers were created before XP even existed! LOL Anyway, let us know if works! Good luck! And Happy Holidays!

(NOTE: I also found a sound card which uses the same sound chip in your laptop; but this is a PCI card designed for desktop use, but it uses the same sound chip and it has an XP driver; if you install it via the "have disk" method and point the Hardware Wizard to the extracted driver, it should work, but try the link above first; if you do try this 2nd driver, DO NOT run the setup.exe as it is highly unlikely that it will work; if you want to try, click this direct download link and a download dialog will open; good luck!)

i'm afraid to download a driver again cause i've downloaded a sound driver called yamaha ds xg (same as the old one that i have here in my computer) and when i installed it and restarted my computer, and reached the desktop a blue soemthing pops up and then it restarted again,it keeps on restarting when that blue thing appears, but i've uninstalled the driver. Thank you again for the replies! i appreciate it. :)
    Happy Holidays!

    Hi

Another thing to try is go into Device Manager and do you have any yellow ! marks, if so by what?

Is anything listed under Sound Video and Game controllers?

Could also try the Hardware Wizard in Control Panel and see if that will automatically find your hardware as in most cases a backup form of the drivers are sometimes saved on the PC.

To get the correct driver you would have to search the Sony site for your model PC, and finding all points to its being a Japanese released model, so that site will have the drivers, I searched UK, USA, Canada, Brazil et al for Sony Support and perosnally knowing the way OEMs spec their PCs with what maybe similar chips, dont always work out that way and some are taliored to various markets.
