    do you know the manufacturer of your motherboard? if not you can use everest to get your system info, just run the report wizard and look for anything identifying your motherboard.

  4. stupiddrivers

    stupiddrivers Private E-2

    where would that be under, what section? under motherboard it says the name is 'unknown'

  5. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

    Attach a full Everest report. There are a couple of sections that the motherboard may show up in.
    Is this a built computer or one from a manufacturer like Dell, HP, etc?
    If it's not a build post the full model number and brand.
    Also, your report doesn't show what SP you are updated to. Do you know?

    When Everest is done scanning, click "Report" at the top of the Everest window, click next to get to "Report Profile", select "Hardware related pages", click next, select "Plain Text", click "Finish". Then when it is done processing, click "Save To File". Save it where you want to. (I would use Desktop.)
    Click "Go Advanced" in the MG reply box, scroll down a little way until you see "Manage Attachments", click it, browse to your file, click "Upload", and close the window. Then submit the post. You may have to also type something in the reply box, like, "Here's my report.", so that it will submit.

    This is the original installed Realtek driver for your system:
    Spring 2007 Original Realtek High Definition Audio Driver

    If this doesn't fix your problem, take a look in your Device Manager (Control Panel>Device Manager) Look under System Devices.
    Is either the MS UAA Bus driver or Realtek HD showing there?
    Is there any warning on them? (! or ?)

    For your SP, go to Control Panel>System.
    If you don't see SP1 there, you should check to see if your Windows Updates are working.

    I'm not sure what that error is about.
    I just went to HP and tried to download the driver and got a server connect failure error.

    That shouldn't be a problem. (I hope)

    Looking in your Device Manager, it looks like Realtek has installed under Sounds, Video, and Game Controllers. The HD Audio Controller (MS UAA) is also installed. Neither are showing a conflict.
    You should have sound now.
    If you don't, do a complete shut down and reboot.

    This is the first time that I have seen a driver showing fully installed (in Vista) and not showing the device installed.

    Take a look at your configurations.
    Right click your Volume Icon and choose Playback devices (I suspect this won't work)
    If it does work, make sure Speakers is chosen as Default Playback (will have a green circle with a checkmark) and it will say Working.
    Right click Speakers and choose Properties. Make sure the Device is Enabled.

    Now click Configure and make sure your speaker type is chosen.
    Now click next to choose Full Range or Surround.

    You can do the same thing from Control Panel>Realtek HD Audio Manager.
    If you click the i in the bottom right, you will get an info window.

    Also check the Device Manager and see that both HD Devices are enabled there. (Right click and Enable)

    Again, I would check Windows Update and get updated to SP1.

    I forgot this.Make sure your Windows Audio Service is running.

    Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services
    Scroll down the list of services until you find the Windows Audio service.
    Right click on it and choose Properties.
    Make sure it is set to Automatic and Start is checked

    ah yes, these services are fine but yes i still have no driver and no sound :( the sound driver you asked me to download came up with that error...ugh =[

    I didn't suggest this earlier because I didn't see the chipset driver at HP. This is from Intel for your motherboard. Install it and reboot.
    [FONT=Arial,helvetica]INF Update Utility - Primarily for Intel® 4, 3, 900 Series Chipsets

    Then install this Realtek driver:
    http://majorgeeks.com/Realtek_High_Definition_Audio_for_Vista_d5513.html

    Did you checkout the HD Audio Manager?

    Did you check into your Windows updates to get SP1 installed?

    One other thing you can try is running the SFC.

    System File Checker
    1) Insert your OS disc and close auto-play if it opens.
    (If you have a Recovery Partition you can skip this step.)
    2) Goto Start>Run, type cmd and press Enter.
    A command window will open.
    3) Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
    I
    This will compare your OS files to the OS files on your OS disc (or Recovery Partition) and repair or replace any missing or corrupt files, without affecting your personal files. (Music, Photos, Apps, etc.)

    Run through these steps. I know some are repeats but re-check to be sure after the SP1 install.

    Check: Speakers connected correctly? Working? (Check on another PC)

    Check: Master Volume control. (not muted)

    Check that Windows Audio Service is started.
    Cick the Dependencies tab and make sure all the services there are automatic and started. (thumbnail shows what mine look like)

    Check: Device Manager and make sure your audio device IS enabled

    Check: Your audio manager for a setting that mutes back panel audio if you have plugged headphones into a front panel audio solution. Uncheck: this setting to allow audio to both the back and front.

    Check: BIOS to insure on-board sound is enabled.
    As the PC starts, press one of these keys, (Try F2)
    (here is a list by manufacturer)http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm
    Or the right key will be posted on the very first screen.
    Tap it until you enter set-up, then look for your audio (it should be in Advanced or in Integrated Peripherals)
    Make sure sound is set correctly, when finished. For Onboard Sound (Enabled) For an add-on Sound Card (Disabled)

    back to the basics...can you try other speakers, or double check your outputs for them? ( i know it's menial, but it can't hurt to check)

  23. stupiddrivers

    stupiddrivers Private E-2

    yes, before i move on to the bios step i want to be sure to tell you there are no 'dependencies' in the service.... see my thumbnail

    Attached Files:

    musksnipe Guest

    Look back at my thumbnail of the dependencies.
    I don't understand why you don't have anything listed there.
    I know Windows Audio HAS to be dependent on most of those in my screenshot, so make sure all those services are started and set on Automatic.

    BTW did you reset any services, before your sound went bad on you?

  25. stupiddrivers

    stupiddrivers Private E-2

    no i do not remember resetting anything, i just updated it and after the update i had no sound, but yes all those services are started and automatic; but, they also all have no dependencies

  26. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

    This is pretty odd. I have 2 Vista PCs here and both show those dependencies. My XP machine also shows a couple of those.
    I just did some searching and found an almost exact duplicate of your problem and my suggestions, all the way to the point we are at now. That problem hasn't been solved yet either.

    The only thing I can think to do at the moment is to uninstall your audio through Control Panel>Programs and Features and retry a new install with the HP driver again:
    Spring 2007 Original Realtek High Definition Audio Driver

    I do have another suggestion. Your problem doesn't exactly fit the problems that this fix is for, but I am wondering about your services. Plug and Play is an important service and this fis deals with that.

    Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator
    Scenario One
    You DO have "Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator" listed under System Devices

    Carry out the following steps;
    * Copy C:\WINDOWS\inf\machine.inf to a temporary location
    * Edit your copy of machine.inf in Notepad
    * Remove line 20 (ExcludeFromSelect=*)
    * Right-click “Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator” and click “Update Driver”
    * Choose “Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)” and click Next
    * Choose “Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install” and click Next
    * Click “Have Disk”
    * Browse to the location of your copy of machine.inf and click OK
    * Select “Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator” and click Next
    * Wait for the software to install then click Finish

    Scenario Two
    You DON’T have "Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator" listed under System Devices

    Carry out the following steps;
    * Copy C:\WINDOWS\inf\machine.inf to a temporary location
    * Edit your copy of machine.inf in Notepad
    * Remove line 20 (ExcludeFromSelect=*)
    * Go to the Control Panel and run “Add Hardware”
    * When the Add Hardware Wizard appears, click Next
    * Wait for it to search for new hardware
    * Choose Yes, I have already connected the hardware and click Next
    * Scroll all the way down and select “Add a new hardware device”, click Next
    * Choose “Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced)”, click Next
    * Select “Show All Devices” and click Next
    * Click “Have Disk”
    * Browse to the location of your copy of machine.inf and click OK
    * Under Model, select “Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator”, click Next
    * To start installing the drivers, click Next
    * Wait for the software to install then click Finish

    Now see if you can install your driver.

    ugh when i tried to update it it said it cannot find the file specified. i copied to desktop and it sucks...whats there left to do.. im desperate!

  29. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

    That is in Device Manager.
    * Choose “Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)” and click Next
    * Choose “Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install” and click Next
    * Click “Have Disk”
    * Browse to the location of your copy of machine.inf and click OK
    * Select “Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator” and click Next

    Follow the instructions. You have to browse to the file on your desktop, through the Hardware Wizard..
    If it can't find the file, it's because you didn't lead the Hardware Wizard to it.
    This fix does work, but I am not sure it will work for your problem.
    I just am not sure what else to try.

  30. stupiddrivers

    stupiddrivers Private E-2

    theres a copy of machine.inf on the desktop and i have edited out the 20th line ; i followed your instructions again.

    when i pressed have disk and browsed for the file, i got this message [1st attachment] and then it said "installing driver software" then it gave me this message. [2nd attachment] . and yes this is for the plug and play thing under system devices.

    but this is getting frustrating i know...isnt there a way i can just redo the computer or something, and get the sound back? :cry

    Is the new copy you saved, saved as.inf?
    Notepad may have saved it as .txt.

    Yes, you could save all your important files to disc, you could reinstall your OS, reinstall all your drivers, reinstall and reconfigure all your applications, reinstall all your important data, and IF all went well, you would have sound.
    I don't recommend doing that.

  32. musksnipe

    Is the file you just saved, saved as an .inf file?
    It's possible it got saved as a .txt.
    Yes, you could save all your important data to disc, reinstall your OS, reinstall all your drivers, reinstall all your applications, reconfigure all your applications, reinstall your important data, and IF all is done right, you will have sound and everything would be like when it was new.
    I don't recommend that.

    ah yes it is a inf file [setup info file]

  34. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

    Something is not right. Let's go step by step.
    First, which scenerio are you trying?
    # 1 is for the Plug and Play Enumerator showing in your Device Manager
    # 2 if it is not there.

    Did you only copy the .inf file, not move it or cut it?

  35. stupiddrivers

    stupiddrivers Private E-2

    #1.

    and i think i pressed copy and then pasted onto the desktop.

  36. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

    I don't understand why this isn't working right. It always did in the past
    Maybe, it's because this is Vista and that fix was always used for XP.

  37. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

    It seems I have failed with this.
    The two choices, I have to give are getting a sound card or a reinstall of Vista.
    I hate to say that because that's a big hassle.
    If you do decide on a reinstall, make sure to save your important documents, pictures, music, and anything else that you don't want to lose to disc.

  38. stupiddrivers

    stupiddrivers Private E-2

    hopefully a reinstall works. and will fix all my other problems such as why firefox freezes alot and my mouse... do you have instructions on how to reinstall?

    Do you have something called a Recovery Manager? (or something similar)
    You can recover through there.
    Just make sure to reformat when you are asked.
