    Hi,

My sound has been running absolutely fine since I bought this Advent 9915w laptop, and after a windows update a couple of moths ago, my sound stopped working completely. When I tried to update the Realtek HD driver, the message 'no sound devices can be detected' kept coming up (or something of the sort!) I thought it would be wise to uninstall the old driver completely, and re-install the new one. However, the same message keeps coming up - and even if the driver does seem to install correctly, I restart the machine, and there is still no sound. When I click on the speaker icon in the bottom corner, the message 'No Audio Output Device Installed' comes up. HELP!!!! :cry

I run Windows Vista Home 32- bit OS, and Firefox browser, if that's of use.

Thanks to anyone that can assist!

Thanks for that thesmokinggun. For some reason I was previously convinced that it was a realtek driver needed! I've now downloaded the conexant driver from the link you gave - the driver semed to install correctly. However, I still have no sound :-S Everest shows that I'm still running Windows Vista SP1 - could this be a problem?

    Cheers :cool

    Hi

Dont think that just having SP1for Vista would be your main issue, and I would hold off on updating until the sound issue is fixed.

Did you uninstall the Realtek driver before installing the Conexant one? if not try again and uninstall both and then install the Conexant one.

Can you tell us the following:

Have you had malware on your PC and if so is it fully cleared?
In Device manager do you have any yellow ! marks, and if so by what?
In Services (just type services into the Start Search box) is the Windows Audio service Started and set to Automatic? if not do set it to start and startup type to automatic, reboot and see if sound works.

Halo - you are an angel!

I didn't see the realtek driver in device manager - but when I double checked in the programme uninstaller, it was still there! I uninstalled it, and the correct driver by conexant worked straight away! (Thanks thesmokingun for that too!)

    ;)
