1.2G amd athlon, asus motherboard 6 1/2 yr. old plunking along ok computer suddenly has no sound, no light on labtech speakers, looked for "mute" or other volumn device controls. unplugged, and replugged (new slot) speakers, restarted computer. Any more ideas? You guys fixed my freezing mouse, well actually I got a new mouse. helped my sluggishness with defragging and ccleaner months ago. Do speakers just stop working? I really appreciate your help.

    Hi ya lyn.

Right click "My Computer"... "Properties"... "Hardware" tab... "Device Manager" button.
Look for "Sound Video and Game Controllers" to make sure it's there.
And if it is... check to see if there is a "Exclamation point" or "Question mark".

    If that looks ok...
Don't forget to make sure it's not just the speakers not being plugged into the wall socket. ;)
Also check to make sure the power adapter is plugged into your speakers.
Also consider it just may be that your power adapter is fried.

Do you have or did you try plugging in other speakers?
If you have head phones... see if you can plug them into the sound out.
If you can do this... it would confirm whether or not it's a bad sound card.

no question mark in device manager, plugged speakers into live extension cord, still no light. I'm going to check my barn for old speakers. So it could be the sound card or speakers? Would there be any worthwhile speakers at K mart or Radio shack? The 3rd labtec speaker is 10 x 10 x 10 for decent bass. computer subs for TV and stereo.
    Thanks for the reply,

    Hi,

If you have narrowed it down to the speakers themselves K-Mart has a set of Creative speakers, here's the link: http://www.kmart.com/catalog/thumbn...=89&sfp=120306_ElecLinks6_ComputerAccessories

I believe PCJinx knocked out most the troubleshooting. It sounds like it is an external problem, one not inside the computer. If the light is not on that would lead me to believe the power connection is bad or the speakers themselves are. So if you have eliminated the sound card or integrated sound from being part of the problem you might want to test the speakers with another device if you can.

If you have a portable CD player try plugging in the line-in cable into the CD player, plug in the power cable, pop in a CD and see if you get sound.

    Hope all goes well.

I did find some old speakers in the barn and they work, (comparitively tinny sound) There was no adapter ( if that is the box thing you plug into you outlet) with the labtec. There is not a fuse or something to reset the labtecs? Would it be worthwhile to check thier site or No light, no sound = bad speakers? Thanks so much for the help, dang, now my mouse arrow is jumping over to the right side of my screen, have to place it quickly or it jumps back to the same spot! Ugh! I'll check out the Kmart speakers. Thanks again.

Unfortunately, I think if u tested other speakers and they worked, you can conclude that the speakers are broken. Especially if they dont light up.
