For many years I had a little loud speaker in the lower right hand of the task bar which I could click on to regulate the sound. Lately it's been missing, as has the printer icon, which shows up when there's something in the printer queue. I tried to get the sound icon back by going to settings and then to sound and audio and when I ask it to show the icon, it says I need to go to software and install it. These both may have happened after I ran the issues tab of CCleaner and deleted some things. Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Did you back up your changes to the registry?
If so, you might try restoring the values you've removed by double-clicking the .reg file that was created.

If you haven't, I might suggest a system restore to a time before the icon disappeared.

Failing that, I would try re-installing the sound card drivers

    Mada,
when it asked if I wanted to back up the registry, I said yes, only I don't know where the backup goes. I went into CCleaner yesterday and looked at all the tabs, but I couldn't figure out, if there are backups, where they would be. Any advice how to find them? Also, I thought it would be easiest to just go back to an earlier restore point, but I can't seem to get back to before November. I also installed and ran ERUNT (later, unfortunately), but I can't figure out how to use the registry backups for ERUNT either. When I click on it, it seems to just want to make another new back up, rather than taking me to old ones.
    Thanks!

My CCleaner I believe defaulted to sending the back-up registry files to "My Documents" but regardless yours should look like this were ever they are located

just double click on them/it and you will get a prompt to reinstall. Hope that Helps Abri

I found my CCleaner registry backup right where I forgot I had put it, ran it and ... it didn't work. So I went to Google and found this:

    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=319095

and THAT worked! The reason I found it was because I had gone into settings and sound/audio and wanted to tick the "show icon in the task bar" box, and it gave me an error that I had to install something. The above link shows how to install the thing. The only problem I had was that it wanted an XP pro cd and I have xp home. However, I held down the shift key while putting in the xp home cd, so it wouldn't start up (as instructed) and it brought me to a menu where I went to an entry called "cd durchsuchen" which I think is something like search the cd in English, and in there I put in a search for the file called Sndvol32.ex_ It found it under the i386 and then I just followed the MS instructions and got it back.

    Hope this helps someone else!
