Sound is out

I am not getting any sound from my PC speakers, streaming audio, etc. I can't figure out what the problem is. I just installed ATI media center.

This problem occasionally happens when users install ATI media center or other similar products.

You likely need either some sort of driver "update" or perhaps "reinstall"

Try this - Go into the Device Manager:

(1) Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management
(2) Click on "Device Manager" (should be on the left side)
(3) Expand Sounds, Video, game controllers (on the right)
(4) Also expand "System Devices" (on the right as well).

Look for yellow "exclamation marks" (!) and either update or reinstall these drivers.

Additionally, especially look all the way towards the bottom for something like "PCI Device" with a yellow exclamation mark. Double click on it and then click the "Driver Tab" and then click the "Reinstall" or "Update" drivers button. It should then install the correct sound drivers.

Note: While you're in the Device Manager you might also want to "expand" everything in there and check for yellow "exclamation marks." Over time, many of these drivers get corrupted and need reinstallation or an update.

I brought up device manager and didn't find any conflicts.

 

Are you sure the sound is not muted? Is the volume turned up?

Is the speakers plugged into the right port, within the sound card?

Did you have any issue before you installed the ati media center?
