Hello, been a long times since I've been to your site. after years of not having a pc I am now the pround owner of a lap top. I am very capable when it comes to desktop pc's but not so much with lap tops. I'm trying to do a couple things here, the first is to remove and reinstall Windows. It won't let me, it says the operating system on my laptop is newer than the one I have on disk. They both are windows XP. I tried "format" on C: but it also won't let me. I bought this laptop from a local pawn shop with all the previous owners files and BS already on it. Wilst I was trying to clean it up of unnecessary files and programs I unknowingly deleted the sound driver and didn't realize it until it was too late. I don't know what kind of sound card I have, nor what sound driver I need. Please let me know what information you need to help me.

    Thank you

    HI

Please try and answer the questions below and attach the Everest log as it will give us alot of info in order to help you find the correct driver.

If your PC is one from the likes of DELL, HP, Sony, etc what is the Make and model varient as this will assist us if we need drivers?

If your PC is a home or custom build what is the motherboard make and version?

To find this info you can use the likes of Everest to find this info, at times a summary log of your PC can help, to do this

    Install Everest and run
Click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next
    Choose All Pages > Next
Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) and click Save (n.b. Save to desktop is best as easy place to find it, use Browse to locate desktop)

Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

Still working on getting you what you need. I'm having a difficult time maintaining an internet connection long enough to download your program. I found a good spot and am going to try again now.

    Hello again,

I was able to download and run your program, finally, last night. attached you will find the results. If there is anything else you need please ask.

As far as the original sound issue, I have sound now, but still am not able to put a volume control in the system tray, it says there is no mixer installed.

thanks in advance for your help.

I keep experiencing a reoccuring error with an add-on
msxml71.dll. I did a quick search online, but everytime the page with the info starts to load, I get that error. Anyone heard of this "add-on"

ok, I know this has nothing to do with drivers, but I didn't see any reason to start another thread.

I can't wait to get this computer running as well as y'all helped me get my last pc.

    Hi

As for the Audio great, did you install the drivers from Gateway from here http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?st=pn&param=1009037 if not I would do so and install the chipset driver first, reboot then the audio.

as for msmxml71.dll then if your getting this alot then its likely malware as that file flags up as rouge, so to clean your PC of malware you'll need to follow this [/COLOR] Please read and follow the following READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide and HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post then start new thread in the malware forum and attach the logs, then the malware experts will review them and issue you some cleanup steps to follow
