sound problem with new Soundblaster card

Being a computer newb, I had the shop install a new Creative Soundblaster
SB0792 X-Fi Xtreme Audio card. Got the computer home tonight and I'm having the following issues (I used YouTube, haven't tried a CD yet):

-sound volume rises and falls
-sound is tinny, becomes full in spots then sounds tinny again, almost like it's in an echo chamber
-(this is weird) no audio for some videos, bass only on others

I've confirmed the problem isn't with my speakers (Harmon Kardon HK695); they work 100% fine on my wife's laptop

Any suggestions what the problem could be? Thanks.

 

I just saw a thread recently with about the same problem. That person fixed the problem with a re-install of the driver.
Normally, we recommend installing your chipset driver, then your audio. I'll post the audio, but if you still have the same problem, afterwards, you will have to give us some info about your PC.
Make and Model number OR motherboard ID.

Thanks for the advice guys. I was back and forth to the computer shop four times (!) for CD driver and issues with the new soundcard. I finally told the tech just to reinstall the old soundcard and give me a refund on the new one so I could get my computer back and not have to deal with him anymore.
I've had the computer almost four years and have decided to upgrade it soon anyway. I was about to go postal and it wasn't worth the aggravation (took four and a half weeks to resolve).
