what operating system do you use???

You could check control panel /system and then hardware and check if you have a exclamations points in one of your hardware device your should be in
sound and video and game controlers...

First thing I would do is update your motherboard/chipset drivers, as well as DirectX.

DirectX should be 9.0c, yours is 9.0b.

Then I would check Device Manager for any ? or ! (as Clark_Kent suggested), and update your sound drivers.

Everest should provide links for the manufacturers sites. If unsure, post back.

Seems to be you have a realtek AC97 driver and you need the SIS7012 driver for sound,

delete the sound driver you have listed in Device Manager .. could be listed as Realtek under Sounds, Video and Game Devices if in doubt tho post a screenshot of the items listed under the above Sounds, Video etc and we will advise.

but the correct drivers for your motherboard as you have onboard sound are listed here under SiS 7012 PCI Audio Driver

as a note your motherboard is this K7S5A from EliteGroup or ECS.

plus is there as reason you have not installed SP2 for XP? as it does enhance the security aspect of XP greatly and not just the superficial aspests of the Firewall and popup blocker of IE but the very core kernal of the programing.
