    Hi All,

Currently , when I plug in my microphone into the jack in the front of my computer, I can hear and record the tapping of my finger, loud and clear. But when I try to record diallogue it is very distant and low volume.

I've looked through the adjustments, tinkered with recording levels but with no joy, can't find anything obviously wrong.

Replaced the mic: no different result.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Do you have the Mic boost set?

What does that mean? An amp on the mic? I didn;t have one of those on my previous computer (win 98SE) and the process I am using now worked then.

As I don't know what OS you are running I'll tell you where this setting is in Win98SE and you should be able to find it somewhere close in whatever OS you are using.

Right click on the volume icon in the Sys tray (bottom right of screen) and select "Open Volume Controls". Seelct Options>Properties> select Recording>OK Select the Advanced Option under Microphone and at the bottom you should see Mic Boost (20dB). Select that and see if you're any better with the recordings.

I had a similar problem with my creative audigy when trying to covert analogue video to digital,no matter what settings I turned up the sound would be low almost inaudible and when the mic boost was enabled the amount of static was horrendous, the solution was to use the line on the soundcard the blue socket which should be located at the back of your computer :)
