    Hello all...

OK, I had build my parents a new computer, and was going to throw my old Soundblaster Live! Value in it. The speakers being used here are Altec Lansing AVS500s, which are 4.1. Parent's machine has Winodws XP SP2 on it. Card and software went in fine, but no matter what I tried the rear speakers would not work. If I reversed the plugs (Black/Rear Plug into Front/Green Jack, etc.) then the problem reverses. It's almost as if the rear speakers are not being amplified. This is strange since I had just been using that soundcard and speakers on my system before, although with Windows 98SE. I tried plugging these speakers into my own system (with Audigy LS) and they worked fine. I tried another set of AVS500s in my parent's machine, same problem. So, I gave up, thinking it was a WinXP SP2 thing.

Now, I put the SBLive Value and AVS500s in my daughter's computer, running Win98SE (my old system)... and the problem is still there! I'm going insane! Someone, please help! Now, before you ask... Yes, both the Creative Mixer AND Windows Audio settings are both set to 4 speakers. I have tried everything, including changing slots with the card and reinstalling drivers. Nothing seems to get these rear speakers working. I know the card is projecting the both rear and front channels, and I know all the speakers are working... the problem seems to be with the output level to the rear speakers... but I can't find ANY setting ANYWHERE that let's me fix that. I really hope someone can help. Don't be afraid to make obvious suggestions... it's been awhile since I used this card/software, so I may be missing something. Thanks.

I have had similar, (except worse), problems with my Audigy2.

Installing these drivers made a tremendous difference, for instance I now stream off the net and all my speakers (5.1) work.

    Thanks...

I have further narrowed it down to the power level on the rear channel. Anyone know how to boost the rear channel output on a SBLive! ?

well, not sure if this helps or not. when i tried to plug in my headphones to my computer it wouldn't work. (i have sb live - value i think, on my gateway). so then i tried my other speakers which have a headphone jack, and the speakers wouln't work. i went to my stuff at gateway and got a pic. i wound up messing around and changed the speaker setup from 2-4 speakers (i think, something like that), and that fixed my problem. so look around for this setting in sb live. - g/l sos

Thanks for the reply... yes, apprently changing from 4 speaker to another setting and back again has fixed this problem with others... but it didn't help me when I tried it. There is definitely a signal coming from the SB card's rear channel, it just appears as though my particular set of speakers doen't amplify it enough to be heard with default settings. Unfortunately, I can find no way to boost the rear channel volume.
