Sound Problems

Hi everyone,
I got my friends computer built and the only thing i have trouble with is the sound. I was installing c&c redalert 2 and this message came up.

DXSound Error
Failed to create direct sound object
Proceed
[ok]

I looked in the hardware profiles and saw no sound hardware at all. This is funny because the sound is built into the motherboard and i have installed all the drivers.
Help is greatly apprecited!

Is the onboard sounds enabled in the bios ?

 

Does the sound work in all other applications

 

Yes, they are set on Auto in the bios. The other option was disabled

No, The sound does not work in any application.

Which motherboard is it? With my MSI K7N2, I had to install the sound drivers seperately from the motherboard drivers. Try checking their website for a seperate driver for onboard audio.

 

Its an Asus A7N8X-VM/400 W/ built in sound

[edit]When i start the computer a driver window opens. It says it is going to search for the driver of a PCI Multimedia audio device. I put in the cd and nothing. I even tried a win 98 cd and windows update. There is still nothing.

I have checked the website and found no sperate sound drivers. The driver package is an all in one so i will try another one from the site and see what happens.

I downloaded the newest all in one driver from the asus website. I restarted the computer and the driver instilation came up again. I directed it to the folder i created with new drivers. Finily it worked. He has the best sound i have ever heard come out of built in audio.
