Sound problems

Hello all

I am posting this on behalf of my brother. He is experincing some rather bizzar

The problem happens ramdomly when he is playing online, and then all of a sudden his sounds stops playing. Even when he goes back to desktop, the sound is muted in windows, even though there is no mute being displayed. And the only way to resolve the problem is restarting the PC completley. Made sure there was no loose connection's, I checked in device manager, but no problem there, looked in Sound and audio devices, nothing out of place there either. Ran Dxdiag and results found no problems. And just found out it doesent happen when he is playing online. Also happens when he is simply playing an audio CD. I have a nastey feeling its a virus. I ran VGA while makeing sure it has the latest update, nothing found, downloaded stinger.exe and ran that, nothing found, even ran an online scan called House Call by PC-Cillin, and that found nothing.

Anyone have an idea what it might be?

 

Is he overclocking on my old mobo if the southbridge overheated my sound whould get crappy or die ......

 

It's all sorted now, his sound card packed up, kicked the bucket, dieded . He pinched my sound card just to test it, and I pinched his sound card to test his. My sound card ran fine on his comp, while the sound card in my comp died half way through an audio track. (hope I dident lose you there)

he's happy now knowing what the problem is.

now if only I could get my sound card back ................ (only joking)
