    Hi Everyone,

    Scenario:

    1. I have a Fujitsu A6020 Laptop with an onboard sound card that has Realtek HD as codec.

    2. I'm an amateur musician and I'm trying to record sound coming from a softsynth controlled by my MIDI keyboard directly back into my sound card's input, which is somewhat a "record what you hear" setup. I have tried numerous software to see if I can record without the need for wires but to no avail. Now I'm thinking about buying a connector to connect my line-out jack to the line-in jack.

    Question:

    1. Is it safe to do the above configuration? I'm worried it might produce a feedback loop that would fry my sound card's circuits.

    2. Is there another way to record without the need for wires?

    Thanks in advance! :)

    Hi Kop,

I am also a musician. Big band. Reeds. No activity since 1957. My son is a keyboardist. I have not used MIDI in many years. Don't know anything about MIDI into the USB port. Should be possible given the correct software/sequencer. I used the MIDI input/output that used to be included on all sound cards in the 15 pin Joystick port. Don't think it exists anymore. Coun't find the necessary adaptor cable then so designed and built a very simple adaptor into the 15 pin connector shell. Worked great. Used Band in a Box and Cakewalk. My son was using the same ones. I'm sure you know that MIDI is a series of codes to run a synthesizer and nowhere near being an audio signal. Maybe this will be a little help to you. Someone here with recent experience will probably kick in with much better info soon. Google search should turn up lots of good info.

    Good Luck, Jim
