Hello everyone! I've got the sound blues.

    BACKGROUND INFO
Before all of this happened my PC was running fine. Then I downloaded Tune Up Utilities to help clean up my computer. It scheduled a chkdsk which was fine with me. The next time I restarted the chkdsk started up but then I accidentally powered off the computer during it. When I turned it back on the PC would get to the XP loading screen and then bluescreen and reboot. I managed to fix the XP installation with the repair disc. Once I got everything back up though, thats when the sound problem started. I eventually resorted to formatting and even THAT didn't fix it.

    THE PROBLEM
After a while my sound will cut out and when I try to play things in Winamp or anything it will stay stuck @ 0:00

The sounds will sputter for a second and then freeze.

Also when the sound dies, sometimes programs will start to freeze up to the point I can't even kill them in tskmgr.

    System sounds don't play either.

I've tried updating to the latest drivers. I tried an older version of the drivers too.

    Things I've tried and checked:

    - Updating to SP3
    - Using the newest drivers and older drivers
    - Checked if there was conflicting IRQ's - there are none.
    - Formatted and did a fresh install of XP
    - Made sure I had disabled on-board sound
    - Nothing in Events Log (or Alerts)
    - Updated my BIOS

I can't even remember all the things I did so you might name some that I already tried.

Here is a copy of my dxdiag using an old driver.
(NOTE: When the sound fails dxdiag won't open at first, and then the second time I try to open it, it will say "dxdiag had a problem opening 'Sound' previously. Would you like to skip this etc...")

Hmm I just noticed that whenever this happens I can't watch more than 3 seconds of a youtube video at a time. Could this be bad RAM? Can RAM affect sound?
