Sound stuttering in Vista

    I'm running Vista and have noticed my sound stutters almost non-stop. Video's play fine but the audio either stutters or or turns to static. This started after clearing my computer of some virus/malware. I get alot of noise from the HD but not alot of activity from the HDD access light. I ran Process Monitor and it shows that my registry is being accessed non-stop even when not doing anything. I've replaced the sound card to rule that out. The machine runs fine except for the sound. And when the activity stops, the sound behaves. How can I find out/stop whatever is accessing the registry? Will this help the sound issue?

    Hi

    The best thing to do is as you have mentioned malware and registry accessing for a period of time, is that you may still have malware on your PC, not all malware is easily cleaned by a Antivirus/Anit-Malware application and may need manual approach, so follow the below info as written and if you still have the same issues when our malware team here have given you the OK, then repost back in this thread and we will troubleshoot more.

    Thanks. Here's what I did before you could reply: I restored the system to the time right after Kestrel (one of the guys on this forum) helped me clean it before. Everything is fine...except the registry is still being accessed like crazy. The sound doesn't stutter. So now I'm thinking it must be a program or driver somewhere that is causing this. Should I still run thru the suite of malware removal or do you think it's something else? My cpu usage is around 55-65% even when idle.

    Did what was advised. Here are the logs...couldn't run ComboFix. Kept saying that I needed Admin privileges even when I chose to "Run as Admin".
