I'm not sure if I'm on the right board, but my husband was listening to a Youtube video with his Toshiba computer replacement laptop when the sound died. it's not that old of a computer, and nothing bad's happened to it, no spills or drops or anything. why would the sound die on it? he's using Win7, which he hates. we've managed to get some of the screens to show in black font on white, but email is still weird colors. like the original IBM's in acrid greens and oranges. anyway, we'd like to get the sound back, and maybe remove Win7 and install XP. but neither of us are very tech savvy.

Is the sound completely gone, or just on Youtube and other online sites?

If so, check if the sound has been accidentally muted, or the volume lowered to zero.

Also, some laptops have a hardware volume control wheel that may have been accidentally touched.
