    Hello,

This is my first post on majorgeeks. to begin with config of my comp is a p-4, 512 ram with 2.4 ghz. now, my problem is that i don't have a mother board cd, and recently i formated my computer and since then my video and audio both are showing a yellow exclamation sign in device manager.i don't know weather i have a internal or external sound card and video card. all i could find out was the information which is PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24C5&SUBSYS_2001458&REV_02\3&13C0B0C5&0&FD

on the basis of this i installed a driver for sound card but it is still not working and all i remember is that i had a sound max... i am really puzzled and confused ..plz help me...

if your comp is a pre-built comp (ie - gateway, dell, etc), you should be able to get the drivers from their site. if it is not, you should be able to get the drivers from the m/b site. should you need help, then post your information (ie - brand, model #, etc, etc). or you could try and d/l, install, run everest (below), save a copy of the report, and upload it. also, mention what os you have. - g/l, sos

We generally prefer the Everest report to be attached, versus posted 'in-line', but that's OK.... you're a first timer ;) Welcome to Major Geeks!
    Here's your chipset driver:
    http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/Driver_DownloadFile.aspx?FileType=Driver&FileID=711
Install it first, reboot, then install the sound driver which you can download from here:
    http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/Driver_DownloadFile.aspx?FileType=Driver&FileID=817
Then reboot after that install is done, and your sound should be rockin' like Dokken! :-D

I hope this helps! Let us know how it goes....

hey thanks for the reply ....and i'll keep in mind about attachment lol..... the links that you suggested with the help of it i was able to install the motherboard driver ...but when i started installing the sound driver in between it gave a warning about continue the installation or stop. i selected continue but as soon the installation starts the computer restarts itself..and on start up again a warning appears saying the windows has come out of recovery send the repot to microsof....its not installing the drivers basically....is it due to me as i installed a driver before when i didnt knew what driver i need...

    waiting for your reply..

Hmmmm..... go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and if you see any audio drivers listed, remove 'em. Then reboot in safe mode, go to the device manager and see if there's anything listed under Sound, game, and video controllers. If you see something that says 'legacy audio device' or something like that, leave it alone. What you're looking for is a "brand name"... something like "ADI1981 Multimedia Device" or "RealTek HD Audio Adapter" or something similar, and that's what you'll right click on, and select 'uninstall'. If in doubt, post what's listed under the Sound devices and we'll guide you through it.

    Keep us posted!

I just looked through your Everest report for the 3rd time.... I noticed you have two different model numbers listed. One is GA-8I845GV(-C) and the other is P4IM533. After doing some research, it appears that the two models are very similar, except that they have different audio drivers. So, after uninstalling any currently installed drivers using the steps I outlined above, try installing the audio drivers from this link:
    http://www.axper.com.tw/download/driver/data/Intel/driver_audio_ADI_2kxp.exe
This is a direct download link, meaning that a new web site won't open, only a download dialog box will open. So, try this driver after uninstalling any others, and let us know how it goes!

    hello DLB...

well i found something weired when i went to add/remove in control panel... there exists a file which is written in gibberish, so i didn't get what this file was for. i clicked on the link below that said ..use the following link for more information... as i clicked on it, it displayed a small box which said use the following information to get technical support for and had the same gibberish as the file name . even the publisher and comments were in gibberish. the version was 1.96, contact :lovejingtao and support information as www.138soft.org.................. i tried deleting it but its not going and the window commits an error asking to send the report to Microsoft..... apart from this there were no sound drivers here.

then i entered safe mode over there in device manager i found two yellow exclamation. under the other device it had video controller(vga compatible) in yellow so m guessing i don't have the video drivers either......... then under Sound, game, and video controllers : i found nothing like you said but the following

    audio codecs
legacy audio drivers ............................ i dint do anything with this as u
said to leave it as it is
    legacy video capture devices
    media control devices
multimedia audio contoller------------------- this had a yellow
    exclamation sign in front
    of it
    standard game port
    video codecs

................... so i was not able to remove anything .... and thus didn't download the driver from the direct link u suggested let me know what to do now.......

    thanks a lot

Yeah, you're right. If there's a yellow ! next to the video controller, you need the video drivers too. So, install the audio drivers from the direct link above. Then reboot, and install the video driver. From the Everest report, I'd say it's Intel 845 based, so here's the link:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&OSFullName=Windows* XP Home Edition&lang=eng
Reboot when done, and all should be well.

EDIT- I just re-read your post, and something worries me:
This is not good, and it looks like it might be malware related. I went to the 138soft site you listed and it's Chinese, that's what all gibberish was. I have no idea how that got into your PC. You might want to run some malware scans and a HD/registry cleaner like CCleaner. If your PC starts acting wonky, go to the malware removal forum after reading and following these steps: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 and CCleaner is a great free tool, and is available here http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Slim_No_Toolbar_d4191.html
I'm not going to walk you through malware removal, they have experts in the malware forum here at Major Geeks for that. Hopefully, it won't be necessary after running CCleaner. So, to sum it up: run CCleaner on the hard drive and registry using the default settings. Reboot, and install the sound driver I linked to with the direct link. Then reboot, and install video driver. Reboot again. If that wierd listing that you mentioned is still present, visit the malware removal link and follow those steps....

    GOOD LUCK! Keep us posted!

I did a bit more research... it appears that the Chinese thing is a program called Black Hole v1.96. I couldn't find out anything besides that, and finding that wasn't easy. You can try removing it with a third party uninstaller, here's some links (these are all free) :
    Free Uninstaller http://www.majorgeeks.com/Free_Uninstaller_d5763.html
    MyUninstaller http://www.majorgeeks.com/MyUninstaller_d5912.html
Remove It http://www.majorgeeks.com/RemoveIt_d3839.html (not to be confused with RemoveIT Pro the virus tool)
Revo Uninstaller http://www.majorgeeks.com/Revo_Uninstaller_d5706.html (I've used Revo a few times; it works great)
One of those should do the job.... you might also look through C:\Program Files before uninstalling just to see if there's a gibberish folder. If there is, and one of the uninstallers doesn't work, you can try deleting the folder, running CCleaner on the registry, then remove the gibberish listing from Add/Remove Programs using the Remove Entry tool in Revo....
Anyway, I'm getting off topic here. If you have any continued trouble with the Chinese thing, and you get the drivers installed OK, we'll move to the software forum to deal with removing the Chinese strangeness....
