I bought a new Creative 5.1 soundblaster live sound card which is external and was wondering if i need to disable my old original soundcard, all the new one does is plug into the back of the computer but i'm not sure if i'm suppose to do something with the old one. thanks

Does it plug in via USB?? If so, then yes, I would go into the bios and disable the onboard sound!!

You are supposed to read the anouncement at the top of the forum before posting so we have your computer specs ;) ,to enter the bios the key is usually del or f2 it can be others depending on what computer you have, once in there you will have search the menus for your onboard sound and disable it. :)

you will have to search through the menu's in bios, use the arrows to navigate and return to selet a menu, check in integrated peripherals, find an onboard sound option press return set set to disable :)

I don't think you should have to disable your onboard sound; I didn't. I have an Area-51m 766 and use a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX external USB soundcard and it works just fine w/o disabling anything in Windows, let alone in the BIOS... the biggest problem I ever have is sometimes after using the onboard sound for a while for whatever reason it sometimes doesn't default back to the NX right away, which is easily fixed by changing the current sound card in Control Panel and logging out and then back in. Then again I suppose it depends on your hardware.
