SoundMax XP Problem

My SoundMax driver is not working on my ThinkPad R51. I read a post that said to reinstall the MB Chipset driver, reboot and reinstall the audio driver. This did not work for me. My sound began giving me problems two weeks ago when my DIMM memory card failed. I thought the problem was the card but my sound did not come back when I replaced the card. My XP OS locks up frequently (for up to 10 minutes) unless I disable the SoundMax driver. With the driver disabled, everything works except my sound. With driver enabled I also keep automatically getting Microsoft Kernel audio drivers installed that come up with error messages on device manager that there is another device installed. Any ideas?

Please limit the same topic to one forum. It makes it easier on the people trying to help, and yourself, so you only get one set of possible fixes and you don't get conflicting info. I posted and will continue to post in the hardware forum linked to above.

Maybe a forum moderator can remove this thread or combine 'em or something...

 

Sorry, I posted first in the hardware forum and then saw that most of the other soundmax posts were in the drivers forum. I tried to figure out how to remove the post but it did not seem straightforward. If a moderator would like to remove the post in the drivers forums that would be fine with me.
