Hi I am using windows xp pro with sp2, have a gigabyte motherboard amd duel core 4800 proccessor, and 2 gigs of ram. This just started happening, when I play a movie or music or radio it plays for about 5 min. then pauses about 3 sec. then starts playing again. I was using the ac97 builton sound, had updated all the drivers, for the motherboard, still have the problem. I then disabled the onboard sound and put a creative xfi in and new speakers. Still have the problem. All drivers snd windows updates are installed. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank You

Can you please clarify this? When you say it starts playing again, do mean there's a pause and it starts playing from where it left off (or close to it), or does the whole thing start playing from the beginning? I'm assuming you're using Windows Media Player since you didn't mention which player. Try a different media player, here's a couple good free players that have good ratings here at Major Geeks:
    VLC http://www.majorgeeks.com/VLC_media_player_d4674.html
    GOM Player http://www.majorgeeks.com/Gom_Player_d5595.html
    Mplayer/SMplayer http://www.majorgeeks.com/MPlayer_d5663.html
You might consider installing a good codec pack also:
KLite Mega Pack (incl. Media Player Classic) http://www.majorgeeks.com/K-Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack_d5230.html
Vista Codec Pack (works with WinXP also) http://www.majorgeeks.com/Vista_Codec_Package_d5326.html
Storm Codec Pack (incl. Media Player Classic) http://www.majorgeeks.com/Storm_Codec_d5491.html
One install ONE codec pack. Installing several codec packs can lead to problems (trust me, I've been there) so it's best to find one good complete pack and install it. So, try the above suggestions and let us know how it goes....

Good luck! And welcome to Major Geeks! :wave :major
