Soyo K7VME Motherboard & AMD Sempron CPU

I just installed a Soyo K7VME motherboard and an AMD Sempron 2600+ CPU.

I downloaded the most recent Bios from Soyo website and flashed my Bios.

But on the POST it is displaying my CPU as a Athon MP 1600+

1. any ideas on how to get Mobo to reco my cpu?
2. how can i verify that my Mobo is using correct clock settings for my CPU?

Try the above link and let us know if you can get it to run at the proper speed witch is 1833 MHz.

What bothers me is it is showing up as a mp witch is a mobile processor witch suggests the bios ain't recognizing it right or you got the wrong cpu, but if it runs up to speed and there are know problems might not matter.

the MP is actually AMD's multi-processor with the exact same core as the XP's.

that is an odd problem, but try setting the correct CPU settings through the BIOS. none of my old socket A motherboards adjust the CPU settings automatically, I had to do them manually.

 

Your mobo supports up to 400mhz FSB, so read the manual, you probably have a hardware setting on the mobo to set the FSB (front side bus). It should be set to 166mhz and it's probably not at the moment. Also check the Multiplier if there is any option for that in bios.

This is why I'm thinking this:
AMD 1600+ is 1400Mhz (FSB 133mhz x Multiplier 10.5x).

Since the correct speed of the AMD Sempron 2600+ should be 1830Mhz (FSB 166mhz x Multiplier 11x) it seems to add up quite nicely.

Your settings should therefore be:
FSB 166mhz
Multiplier 11x
Clock speed 1830mhz
Which is the Sempron 2600+
