As most dialup users know and the new users will abrubtly know, that trying to do "Major" updates at say over 20 Megs will be basically useless, unless you have a very good and stable dialup telephone connection! I had to have my brother download the SP3 file here at Major Geeks for me for the obvious reason the file is 335 mgs or so.

Now to the point. The SP3 file ran like silk but at the end of the files extraction, it said that I must at least have SP1 installed first. So I laughed and frowned and said, so now I need a direct link for the dang SP1 file for XP pro so I can tell mt brother with his roadrunner connection to grab it for me!

Please folks, don't tell me about Microsoft Auto Updates. It's ok for those little Hotfix quicky files and I've tried the recommened SP1 Express download with like five failers and two reformattings on the hard drive!

Any one know where the SP1 download is?
    Thanks guys and dolls!

And I thought SP3 included SP1, SP2 and all updates. Stupid me. Might have known. Bazza

Warning to XP SP3, this is NOT final relased version but a beta RC version, the final will not be out until Q1/Q2 2008, so in RC released version its likely to still have bugs and missing components, so is wise not to install on a non-test PC, unless you take the risk that you may loose all data if it crashes.

XP SP3 does need some critial files from previous SPs but we should all have upto date PCs should we not, but as Clark points out get SP2 first.

On release of the final RTM of XP SP3 it will be available to get as previous SPs via Microsoft posting you the CD or as usual on nearly every PC magazine, these are best for users on DialUp, unless nice reletive or friend with Broadband helps out.

Just want to thank everyone for their replies! You know it's still nerve racking. Have not not done nothing yet, waiting to see brother. With all the quirks about updating, and then you find out later about a fix to the so called update, it's beginning to sound like another bad six letter word like "DIALUP!"
This a good forum to be at and I'm going to take it slow on it all!

    Thanks again, Tom
