sp2 at best buy

i went to best buy tonight and stopped to talk to the computer drop off guys, and after talking for a bit, the guy behind the counter gave me a free copy of service pack 2. The same one we all will be getting from microsoft in 2 to 4 weeks time if you ordered it.
so if you cannot wait and do not want to download it check out best buy you might get a copy.

 

I ordered the CD and got it within a week

 

I can't install SP2 via internet. I constantly get an error message that it cannot validate the file "Update.inf and to check to see if cryptographic service is running" I was on the phone with Microsoft all day and ran everything possible to fix this problem with no luck. THey are stumped. Do you think if I got the CD it would install? Stephanie

 

Most likely, yes. No guarantee. If it doesn't, than call MS again.

Negatory. If the download won't install, neither will the CD.

Stephanie, standby, I will find more info for you. The techs you talked to, in essence, talk to me. I'm very, very familiar with this issue.

The problem is that there are many things that cause that problem.

 

Thanks so much Adryn. You've been helping me so much. I just called CompUSA (cause they're near me) and they said that they will install SP2 for free, but I imagine they'll just have the same problem and I don't think I should trust them for figuring out the solution - would you agree? While you're figuring things out for me, I'll go ahead and uninstall my Incredimail manually (it's the program that doesn't work because it refers to my D drive that no longer exists after a merge) in case that has something to do with it. Which thread are you going to reply to? I also have the "Can't Install SP2" thread that we were working on. Thanks again.

Free for CompUSA=, path of least resistance. So if they have problems, they won't fix it.
