I downloaded & installed windows service pack 2 yesterday & now i'm having trouble opening certain folders. If i open a folder & the files are listed theres no problem, but if i change it to view as thumbnails, i was getting a data execution prevention message, but now just "IE has encountered a problem & needs to close" then everything closes.

I'm also getting problems with web pages. If I try to look round the eybuyer website i get:

    "runtime error!
    program: C:\Program files\Internet Explorer\iexplorer.exe
    R6025
    -pure virtual function call"

    click ok then get:

"The instruction at "0x7c901010" referenced memory at "0x0000001c". the memory could not be "read"
click OK to terminate the program"

i have no idea what to do? confused

    Right click my computer
    choose properties
In the data execution prevention tab

you can select to choose programs to apply DEP to or turn it off altogehter.

Open my computer under Start, right click Local Disk (C:), choose properties, under Local Disk (C:) Properties Error-checking left click the Check Now... button, put a check under Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors then start, follow prompts. That should do it :duck

i looked at that but couldn't see an option to turn it off, and I don't know what program is reponsible for viewing files as thumbnails so i can add it?

Sorry you can only turn of DEP by editing boot.ini.

    Do this by
rt click my computer>properties>advanced>startup and recovery>
    click settings>click edit

change the switch /noexecute= to /noexecute=alwaysoff

    file>save>enter
    restart.

The extra two switches always off and always on are only available from Boot.ini. Sorry I forgot that. Once you have updated IE I would change the setting back as DEP is a good thing.

You can also make IE an exception by choosing the second option in the DEP bos as I outlined before.

Turned of DEP by following your instructions studiot, did the restart and still the problem is there :cry
When you say "Once you have updated IE" - what do you mean?

IE updates are not usually included in the windows update process. Google
'update internet explorer' and you will get the proper microsoft ie update site.

I think i'v got all the neccesary updates, maybe there's something wrong with my windows software. Guess i'll just have to not use thumbnails in folders.
