    I have an Asus M4A785T-M/CSM Motherboard, AMD Athlon II, Windows XP home, I installed all my drivers then some windows updates along with SP2, After installation of SP2 I rebooted and it went into a loop of restarting, Windows would not load. This is rather annoying, any ideas what could be causing this?

    Can you boot into boot mode screen:wave, should be F8 on bootup, maybe F5?

    Then choose "Last Known Good Configuration".

    That wouldn't work, i had to boot using safe mode, uninstall sp2 before windows would load normally, the problem now is, i want to install sp2 with out this problem, but I'm pretty sure if i install it again the same thing will happen.

    There may be an anti-virus/firewall/other security conflict you are running into when installing.

    I would set my home page to the microsoft update site, then disable all security you are running and try it that way.

    But first, download cCleaner;

    Run both the cleaner and registry cleaner, creating a backup when prompted.

    Chances are, you just ran into a glitch with the first download and all of this may not be necessary, but it's the way I would approach it. In any case, you do have a way of backing out of any problems.:wave

    I have no security programs installed not even windows firewall.

    I've already downloaded and ran CCleaner, both scans. Note: This is a day old build.. Nothing much on it.

    I guess it wouldn't hurt to try re installing sp2 and see how it goes, It's gonna suck if i have to uninstall it again though cause it takes a LONG TIME. lol.

    I re installed SP2 and well, I'm in safe mode with networking right now so I'm sure you can figure what happened. lol. What now??

    Just jumping in here with some info from Bio's hardware problem thread.
    He's having some problems with his Optical Drive.

    He said
    The reason he did this was because the new board wasn't recognising his optical drive, we've now found out that was a bad cable.

    I've never attempted this type of OS install before and I'm not entierly sure how well this would work but IMO it could cause some hardware issues and maybe be part of the problems here.
    If someone could confirm whether installing XP on a different mobo is a good idea or not, I would say not, but I'm not sure because of the way he did it.

    Well i fixed the SP2 problem by removing "intelppm" But you could very well be right that because i installed the os using another board, it's causing hardware problems, idk, I'm starting to wonder if the CD drive just went bad or it's my cables, either way I'll probably have to buy an SATA CD drive.
