Just put SP2 on my gaming computer and when i restarted it it went to the windows loading screen... after that, it went to a black screen and it restarted itself... I tried Last Known Good Setting but that did the same thing...

Can you get into safe mode, in order to uninstall it, or possibly do a system restore to an earlier date??

I tried safe mode but it came to a blue screen that said the following :

    STOP:c0000135 {Unable to locate component}
This application has failed to start because winsrv was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Should i put my SP2 CD in and try to boot from it and reinstall it or should i put my Win XP Pro CD in and reinstall XP on the C drive only?

I hear you midget... Although this sounds like a bad problem, it is extremely easy to resolve, (if you have your OS disk). Im going to try installing SP2 again, people here say that it is the greatest (i dont even have a windows update on my computer yet)

What I would do is....Put your original XP cd in to boot from and then read everything carefully, and it will eventually get to the point that it will tell you that it has detected a previous windows installation on tha hard drive, and it will ask you if you would like it to try to repair that previous installation...Ofcourse you say yes!! Keep in mind that it will appear as though it is installing like it was a brand new install!! you have to go through the whole complete setup, just like a new install, but it doesn't touch anything that is related to windows and it will roll it back to whatever service pack is on your install cd.

Whatever you do...DO NOT delete any partitions or format any partition or drive!!! That WILL cause you to lose everything on there!!

Once you get the repair done....make sure you are 100% virus and spyware free and all of your drivers and firmware are up to date and it wouldn't hurt to research any possibilities of any programs that you do have on the computer, are there any issues between them and SP 2!! Also...make sure your anti-virus is disabled or off...whatever you want to call it!!

Thoroughly read the link below to microsoft, about installing SP 2, before you attempt to do it again!!

Let me know if you need more direction!!

I have installed SP2 on several dozen PC's, all without any problems, all were clean installs of windows first.
Many people that have problem's are loading sp2 on pc's that are full of crap and or programs that are lacking updates.
I was hesitant to install SP2 when it first came out, SP2 is a Good Thing!

SP2 is a good thing, although I've upgraded to this on PC's in a business environment running programs that rely heavily on accessing server pc's and it's caused some major headaches. I think home pc installs are much easier than business pc installs.

I've used this knowledge base article once before, and that computer has been working fine with SP2 since going through the steps listed in the More Information section.

    Good Luck! :D

Yes, i went through all the steps as said an now i can use my computer... I was going to uninstall SP2 but it said that a BUNCH of controllers from my motherboard and things vital to my system might not run properly so of course i didnt continue.. So ive got SP2 on my computer, i guess since i can uninstall it, although no features of it make themselves present..

Will windows updates slow my computer down?
Heh i just downloaded the Critical update that tells me whether SP2 installed correctly (it didnt) it told me to remove it now so im going to do that and try to reinstall...
