SP2 won't download after OS re-installation

Gi'day all,
After some help again! I did a full re-install of WXP Home and went to the MS site to check for updates and suggested I get SP2 (the disc that came with my comp was SP1a). The download failed to install a couple of times and I was wondering if I should go straight for SP3 instead. I have no AV progs running or even installed yet, so no conflicts there. Any help would be appreciated. old dog

 

I would recommend updating to SP2 before attempting to use SP3. A lot of people have experienced issues with using SP3... that's your call though, of course.

You can download SP2 directly and install it offline, if Windows Update is having issues downloading it. Download link here:

I'll use that link and see how it goes. Did you mean that SP3 could be something to stay away from? I strongly suspect that things started to go pear shaped after I put SP3 on my system eg lots off crashes, freeze ups and generally sluggish operation that seemed to get worse over a month or so but I was leaning towards a re-install anyway so didn't investigate
It seems strange that the Microsoft site didn't offer me SP3

 

At what stage of the installation did it fail. Did you do an auto update from with in the microsoft site

I had auto update enabled, it picked up 2 small files which I installed, I then went to the MS site and did a scan there which prompted me to get SP2. The install failed almost immediately, over a dozen items failed.
