System restore can use up to 12% of the hard drive capacity. You can reduce the default prescribed by XP. I have it set to 5%. Cheers..

I just gave a few suggestions in this thread about using WinDirStat. It is good for finding large files that may be taking up space.

A Must Disk Cleaner is also good for picking up folders that seem surprisingly large and might contain a hidden temp folder or such. The sizes are hard to read in the regular interface but right-clicking a folder gives the option of looking around in Explorer. Just stay clear of WINDOWS folder and System Volume Information, basically anything that could be a system file. I'd use it to check in Docs and Settings and your username to see if there are any temp files leftover from an installation.

And for what it is worth, if you use hibernate and/or standby on your system, they take up space too.
    good luck
