my computers hard drive is running outta space :cry ..i've deleted a few things but when i go to check my available space it hasn't changed y is that

im runin a 40GB 0.0 dont got nothin bigger and i was afraid to run any cleaner program..cause i've heard stories bout it gettin rid of windows files

 

I prefer Advanced System Care instead of CC for this reason. Although many here like CCleaner, I've never had an issue with Advanced System Care removing anything it shouldn't. You can find it in the downloads section.

I would invest in an external HDD for additional storage and backups. Over time, music, picture and video files can add up. Once your main drive is over 80% full, it has the potential to slow your system down (that, plus I'm guessing that your 40GB drive is likely at least a few years old and may be past its prime).

If you have a lot of files that would be hard or impossible to replace, I would make a copy on an external HDD and consider an online backup. Some ISPs offer a limited amount of online backup space as part of your monthly fees; check your ISP's customer support site for details.

one more quick question on this topic:
when i go into properties of my main drive i see disk cleanup should i run that?
i think i heard somewhere that u shouldnt run disk clean up on ur drive with ur windows on it...is this correct?

 

A common oversight.
By default, deleted files go to the Recycle Bin.
