what sound card do you have? is it a 7.1 sb audigy2 ZS? if so get the 7.1 set, but not many games support it if your looking for that...but theyre both really good systems

I will get the sound card when I get the speakers. I won't be using them much for games. so what I'm getting from you is that the 7.1 is better?

well 7.1 is just more speakers if the system wattage is 500W total @ peak; then the 7 speakers will each have 'less power'; if its a 5.1 speaker system and peak power is @ 500W then each indivdual speaker will kick it alot louder.

but the 7.1 has 700w total @ peak

was giving an example; so you get the idea :p ; i guess id go with the 7.1 set; but if you dont have the soundcard to support it (sb audigy2 ZS) you wont get much out of it.

I got the audigy 2 zs sound card and creative 7.1's and they rock.

those logitech Z-5500's supposedly sound even better than the z680s, I'd get the Z5500 as tehre's not much of an added value with the 7.1 set, except you have to position 2 more sats.

so your saying that the only difference in the systems is price and how many speakers there are.

ok I want to know what total @ peak means. cause the gigaworks I can't find and the logitech is 1050w. what does it mean?

basically how much stuff in your house will break if you blast the speakers completly.

I just need to know what the total @ peak is for the gigaworks to help me in my decision.

peak is 70.7 % of the maximum volume out of 100 this is the theoretical maximum volume withiut distortian it is also called RMS (root mean square)
if you see a hi fi and it says 200 watt output then the peak will be 70.7% of it
so those 700 watt speakers at peak will have a maximum value of nealy 1000 watts and that is a lot
