I just purchased a new desktop. When i moved my speakers (which work perfectly on other computers) to it, only some sounds worked. For example when playing music, the sound would be distorted, and choppy. The computer uses Realtek HD audio manager. I tried to get rid of this, because it was interfering with the onboard sound, but everytime i did i would get BSOD and the computer would restart.

Chances are, the Realtek HD audio manager is the on-board sound. Please submit an Everest report, and we'll go from there. Details on attaching an Everest report can be found at this link.

Are the speakers powered? (they'd attach via an electric outlet as well as into the speaker part of the computer)
Older computers can run non-powered speakers. Newer computers need power.
I have a set of non-powered speakers that work fine on an old HP tower. When I move them to any newer computer, the sound is very low (which might mean you wouldn't even hear certain sounds).
