I just bought a new Hard Drive, installed it, then re-installed XP Home. Now when I go to my Control panel and audio devices it says "No Audio Device". I have the same speakers that worked fine before so I plugged them into a different computer and had no issues. they work fine. Any suggestions? Note: I installed a new video card about a month ago as well but doubt this is any issue as they worked fine until now.

What sound card are you using, and did you install the proper drivers/software for it? If so, are there any problems showing in Device Manager (yellow icons with exclamation marks) for the sound?

The same sound card that came with my pc. I opened up the box to make sure it was tightly connected. The card (or in this case little metal box) is just a small metal box measuring about 1" x 1/2" x 1". my speakers are connected to it using 2 seperate 1/4" plugs (One for woofer and one for to speakers). I'm not sure where to get the drivers, and if they are even necessary/available for such a low end soundcard/speaker combo. the speakers are "Harman/Kardon" and they came with my PC. It is a Dell.

Is that little metal box attached to the motherboard, toward the top, where most of the connectors are grouped? If so, that's an onboard sound system built into the motherboard, and will indeed need drivers installed to work. Dell's website support/download section should have proper drivers and software for your computer. Check there, and be sure to get the ones for your computer specifically.

Yeah, the reason I wasnt sure was because I went to dells site, then to downloads, and to drivers. When I downloaded what It said were the drivers it created a drivers folder after unzipping and then gives me a users guide. But all this does is to show me how to set up the speakers physically. No actual drivers are included, or linked to a way to get them. thas where I got stuck and was not sure what else to do.

Take a second look at Dell's site. Often you can download the drivers and user's manual separately. Sounds like you got the manual instead of the drivers.

I'm an idiot. I just realized I was looking under the name of my speakers "Harman/Kardon HK395" when I should have been looking under integrated audio for the drivers. I found them, installed them... and now everythings working fine. Thanks for the help.
