    Hello

My computer has started to become loud, can't tell what fan it is. I have narrowed it down by process of elimination to either the CPU or power supply. I thought it sounds like its from my quad core so I have just brought a new fan and paste etc. But.....

I have downloaded speedfan 4.41. It showing my CPU at around 20-24c for each processor which seems the norm.

    However the results show

Temp 1 - 82c (picture of a flame next to it)
    Temp 2 - 35c
    Temp 3 - -60c

    CPU each at 20-24.

I take it temp 1 is well to high but what the hell is temp 1. I cannot find in any tabs what this temp is? How do I find out what Temp 1 relates to?

My ATI overdrive software shows my graphics card at 30c so dont think its that.

I dont overclock at all btw

Any speedy help would be great as I dont want to damage the computer or spend out any more wasted money on stuff I dont need

    Cheers all

We would need some info on the specific hardware you have.

    Computer make - model??

    Motherboard make - model??

CatT I can't follow the rules

i can't help you with the specific questions, but will just point out that i went thru the same thing abt a year back and got no satisfying answers here. moreover, i emailed the developer several times, and got no replies out of him either.

several ppl have recommended "everest" as a better temperature analyzer. i dunno if it lives up to that, but u might want to have a look. it seems that ppl here are more familiar with it.

    good luck!

Is the computer dusty inside? When the last time you cleaned it out?

    Cleaning it wouldn't hurt.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

You might try accessing your BIOS, look at the temperatures listed there, and compare readings. SpeedFan only displays temps that are supplied by sensors embedded in and remotely probed by your motherboard.

My guess here is that Temp1 is a false reading. If you monitor temp1 you will probably see that it never changes.

Temp2 is probably your Northbridge chip, which at 35 is cool.

    Temp3 is another false reading.

Temps 1 and 3 are probably from the ACPI reporting imaginary temperatures from spaces where temperature sensors could have been placed. Most motherboards do this.
