Most of the "How To Speed Up Your Connection" ads you see are related to compressing images on pages so a dial-up or low-band connection speeds up a bit. If you have checked your DSL connection at some online speed sites and your numbers aren't what your ISP advertises, don't be surprised; they rarely ever are.

The link I provided to the program above is, IMO, the best one out there for that sort of thing.

This is a decent program to test and store results of your speeds for comparison:

That largely depends on the OS, and connection. MTU settings CAN make a difference.

Well, you did it again Star17, twice in one day!! First you introduced me to 'Fasterfox,' which really helped. Now you introduced me to 'Dan's BBST' and then to 'TCP Optimizer.' I ran them both (BBST a couple of times) and it REALLY helped ALOT. My ping times could be alittle better, but, according to BBST, I had little or no packet loss. (depending on the server they connected to) THANKS again for the valuable info! :)

interesting enough, seems after the defrag my lime wire speeds are now up to an incredable 93kbs... weird huh? i used to get 25 and i was happy. but i internet still isnt all the fast, but is quicker. i dont know if it is fom the defrag or what, but here is a picture of the limewire
