WinXP Pro SP2 - I've never been a huge fan of SpeedFan (no pun intended) but I was reading some CPU cooler reviews and they were using SpeedFan as their temp and fan speed standard. So I figured "WTF - I'll give it another go" . . . it had been about 6 or 8 months since I use SpeedFan and though maybe they've made it a bit more accurate and reliable for all motherboards/CPUs. So I installed SpeedFan (link: http://majorgeeks.com/download337.html ). Everything looks OK except for the two hard drive readings (see screenshot attached below). I have 2 SATA drives installed - a 250 as drive C: and a 320gb as drive F: - and SpeedFan shows both as being over 90%. I have no idea what this reading is supposed to represent. I've also attached a screenshot showing the usage graphs from Windows showing how full each drive is; neither is over 80%. Yes, it's true, the feature in SpeedFan I'm referring to is in beta, but WTF is going here?

Before anyone says anything, yes, I know my -12v line is whack. So what. Nothing I use on this PC uses the -12v line and, in general, the -12v line is more-or-less obsolete, so I'm not real worried about the funky reading. I have rec'd similar readings from 3 different power supplies so I know it's the motherboard that doesn't really support the -12v line. Not a big deal.

EDIT - I accidentally attached the drive C: screen shot twice :-o OOOOOPS! Here's the drive F: screen shot attached below:

I wish I knew, but I have never used that feature in SpeedFan. I would be very interested in hearing what you find out though.

maybe it's the wording on the application that says "this part is in beta stage"??

there's nothing wrong with your computer, it reports my hard drive as being 97% full also.

tis nothing more than a beta software bug...maybe it will be fixed in the next version.

Sorry for jumping in,but can anyone confirm the accuracy of SpeedFans temp reading? Shows my CPU temp at 146, but Everest Home shows it at 132.

both of those are pretty hot temps for a CPU...what CPU are you running?

Temps are in F, not C.

This is why I posted the following statement earlier:
So... I cannot confirm the SpeedFan readings (which is main reason I started this thread) but even if the Everest readings are correct, your CPU is still running too hot. If Everest reads 132F at idle, that translates to 55c, which is about 10-15 too hot for an idling CPU. Under a full load, it will probably be 15-25c hotter which is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. Most motherboard manufacturers have hardware monitoring software available to download for free on their web sites (and the BIOS usually has a PC health monitor as well). If not, try using HWMonitor. It's free, and has very accurate readings.

    Bahhh... freekin' betas! LOL roflmao
    Thanks.

    to dlb
HWMonitor shows (within 2 degrees) the same as SpeedFan.
Temps I have been stating are under load, attending to 2 different forums and folding at the same time.
Turn folding off and temps drop to 130F.(while still doing the forums).
