My brother is currently operating a ten year old rig, with a P3 in it (344mhz).:(

His Internet service is Hughes Net with a speed of 1MBPs D/l and 128 KBPs U/L...:cry

He wishes to do more Internet classes, but is experiencing too much buffering...His video card is a Nvidia 5600....

Would building a new rig with a first generation CPU speed up his Internet D/l and U/P ?

Thanks in advance for any helf! :)

344mhz P3?They started at 450mhz:confused lol buffering :-D You using win 98?That's going back, post your OS,do you mean videos are buffering? That's normal if the video file is large

In a nutshell no it won't increase your download or upload speed,it may increase your overall surfing speed depending on what you do on the internet,1 meg down is slow by today's standards even if you do get a new rig but not painfully slow, youtube's server for example will max out on that speed.

So post you OS and double check your CPU spec plus any other spec's you can find out, post when you get buffering and what you do on the internet.

Thanks Rikky! You are probably right about the speed of the CPU...

The OS is XP pro with 512 MGs for the memory. And yes, I was referring to video buffering..Sorry for not being clear on that...:-o

Besides the machine being slow, his major complain is without the videos buffering all the time...

There's no way around video buffering except for getting a faster connection or watching smaller video files 'lower quality'.

Check that your getting your full speed here.

There's no reason your computer would slow down your surfing,I'm guessing you CPU is a 1.3 P3,with 512meg ram and a 5600 vid card your way above what's needed for smooth surfing or video playback, the only problems you will have are with HD videos your connection isn't fast enough really to stream them,I'd download them to watch later.

You may experience slightly smoother surfing with firefox but mainly you can install this plug in to download your vids,

Thank you, Rikky, for your valuable advice...He does use FF as his browser, but lives in the sticks so it is difficult at best to have fast Internet service...

I will pass on your link!
