speedometer for internet?

Does anyone know of a popular program that will allow me to test the speed of my Internet connection? I want one that is well known and gives reliable results. I just want to see how truthful my ISP is. Cable has upgraded my speed to 10 MBps upload and 1 MBps download.

I know the site is accurate for DSL not sure if it is cable compatible but only takes a couple of minutes to run.

 

A lot of times with dslreports i find anything over 7 megs usually doesn't come up right. Like my 8 meg appears to be 6 there, but at other sites it shows as 8 like it should. I usually use the same site as halo, seems to be pretty decent plus gives many different places to test from.

 

tried out the speed test pretty cool site... it rated what the isp is saying, I'm surprised they upgraded me so much. I went from 4mbps to 10 for download and 300kb to 1mb upload. There is also an upgrade choice of 15mbps. I can't stand when some of these stupid sites restrict your download speed more than they should.

I'm rated at 8 megs, btw.

Tested three times, and at two different sites, clearing the cache each time.

 

Something to remember, if the results aren't all that good it may not be your connection. I had an experience where I was about to unload on my DSL company when I had to fix one of my folks computer, and the speed was 10X what I was getting. It was time to tune up the personal machine.

 

was this ever advertised on tv, because it sounds sort of familiar.
