When I have created a document using Microsoft Word (Microsoft Word 2007 (version 12.0.4518.1014)) I use Review>Spelling & Grammar (or I press F7) to check for spelling mistakes. Then I save the document.

If I subsequently open that document again the same mistakes are highlighted. Why does this happen after you have saved the document? Perhaps there's a feature I can select to ensure that once I've made decisions about spelling and grammar and saved the document, the same errors are not highlighted if I open the document again.

All I can suggest would be to turn of the spelling and grammar function when re-opening a document but that seems inappropriate. Plus if you amend the document later you would want to check the changes.

Do you right click each mistake and replace it with the suggested word?

He said "I use Review>Spelling & Grammar (or I press F7) to check for spelling mistakes." That should suffice; he should not need to right click each mistake .... I'm assuming he told Word to make corrections as he goes through the grammar and spelling check initiated from the Menu bar or via F7.

Well, it is just re-checking the document. You need to add those words into your dictionary, by right clicking the word, and clicking on "Add to dictionary".

The OP said nothing to indicate a need to add words to the dictionary; he did not say anything about using unusual or non-standard words that are not in the dictionary. But even if he were using such words, they don't need to be added to the dictionary unless he intends to use them again and wants to be able to use them without having to tell spell check to accept again them in future occurrences.

I use the same version as you and am unable to replicate your problem. Provided I make a decision about each item that pops up - Ignore, Ignore Once, Add to Dictionary etc, and then resave the document, then no items are highlighted when next opened. Is this something that suddenly has started happening when previously OK?

I have auto spellcheck on. I do need to make a decision on every red underlined word, otherwise it is not altered. Just viewing any words it assumes might be misspelled does not alter the word(s), which is a good thing because some things flagged, I do not want changed.
