    Greetings fellow geeks,

I need to split a large Windows 2003 file (1.03 Gig) and burn it onto two 700 Mb. CD’s so that it will install on a computer that has no DVD-ROM (it only has a CD-ROM.) Can this be done?

    Any information much appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Gina

    Kaula,
Not in good heart? LOL, sorry about that, I should have mentioned that it's paid for. ;) Long story, but it's an ISO file I made and kept as a back-up from the original discs. I have UltraISO and am thinking that there is a way to split the archive using that program. Has anyone ever done this?

Does anyone have a link for a how-to?

    Much thanks in advance,
    Gina

I moved last year and had to leave most of my computer stuff behind (very long story.) I made a backup of the file for updating purposes and that is still on my laptop.

Does anyone have a link for a how-to?

    Much thanks in advance,

Like Kaula said, if you want to split it, use winrar. If your intention is to split it into two CD's that can then be used to install from, then sadly you're out of luck. Doing something like that would require you to make a custom windows installer, and you arn't going to find a how-to about how to do that. People do customize the windows installer but they don't do this. Mainly because anyone who wants a CD version simply buys the CD version.

If it's really a legit DVD version then talk to MS, they will most likely allow you to trade it in for a CD version, or give you a discount on a CD version of the OS. Alternativly, just put a DVD drive into the computer. I mean you can pick up a DVD-Rom for about 15$ these days. Or just put a DVD-Rom from another computer into it, install and then transfer it back (that way it's free). Anyone of these approachs are much easier then splitting it into 2 CD's.

    Thanks, problem solved. :)
(The file doesn't really even need to be split in order for me to install on my PC. Oops, LOL!)

I posted so many times because after I posted the second time I went in to edit the post and couldn't, because you cannot edit a post after it's been up over 5 minutes.

Coco and Kaula, I appreciate the quick responses, and Kaula, I just sent you a PM.

    Heartfelt appreciation once again,
    Gina
