splitting cable line

using cable internet. i have to go from a 3way split to a 4way split to account for another tv i put downstairs. when i go to the 4way splitter from the 3way i dont get a signal to my modem. im wearing my sad face because i would like cable on my downstairs livingroom tv.
anyone know of a way i can amp up the signal from the outside so i can use the 4way and still get a signal to my modem?

 

Could be bad splitter, or signal that is not strong for splitting.

Split first with one to to splitter, one for the modem and one to a second 3 ways splitter. Connect the TVs to the second splitter.

 

I had a situation like this and the cable guy told me to do the same split 2 ways with the cable modem and all tv on the other line.

 

you could try an amplifier, if you had no problem with 3 way splitter and now your having signal issues with the four way then id guess you need a signal amplifier it may increase your speed too, due to less lost packets having to be re-transmitted, hope that helps. :major i-CONICA :major

 

all of the replies help, im just tryin to think of a way to wire it without having to rewire my whole basement. thanks for the help guys

 

Try calling your cable providor and asking. They usually are pretty helpful on things like that. Just don't have them come out, cause they are very helpful at charging more money for the work.
