Has anyone carried out an analysis on the best number to split downloads into. On my Leechget

    Leechget http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1821

there is the option to split a downloads into separate bites. Leechget calls it "Default number of tasks". I have recently altered it from 2 to 5 bites. Seems a bit quicker, although I haven't timed it. I am on dialup so any download speed advantage is great.

Anyone care to give their opinion? Bazza

I've got Free Download Manager, it divides downloads into a maximum of 4 sections by default, but you can increase that without limit, as far as I can tell. I've just been using the default settings, it's such an improvement over the Firefox DM that I've been happy with that. Hard to say what the optimum would be, experiment. I suspect it would vary with different connection speeds, servers, etc.

Thanks guys, for your replies. I might drop it back to 4 for a while. As you say, connection speeds, servers, etc., probably make more difference than the number of "bites" anyhow. Bazza
