Spoke too soon (Spyware)

Ok, I just woke up not more than 10 minutes ago, and booted up IE to check out majorgeeks.com... guess what pops up? a new browser window pointing to http:..xlime.offeroptimizer.com

Im meant to be protected?

argh, here we go again...

Also, I stall cannot get my midi/wav to work, a format is my only option, so these ad's can come in, I dont give a rats batoo! Im going to grind them right off the hard drive with a full LONG format tommorow!

 

Let us know more details of your system. What OS? Xp, 98?
Do you use a firewall like Zone Alarm?
Any current virus protection like AVG, Avast, etc?

There are programs that will stop your startup page being hijacked in the future.

Im using WinXP Pro SP2, I always use a firewall and virus protection, norton internet security 2004 and NAV2004.

Ive used a slew of spyware removal and protection tools recommended by strog, and others, it cleaned out some found spyware but not the one I want, I wrote to the company thaat the file ID's, and here's a reply I just got:

I went there it scanned, but didnt find anything, yet it's still popping up, I cant explain it....

 

I re-downloaded startup inspector... wwnvyy.exe is a 4.6MB executable..

Now for the strange stuff?

I disable it, then remove it... apply the changes... refresh.. then its back again, a new startup name... same wwnvyy.exe file...

Argh, now its 100k bigger, unbelievable... I dunno what to do....

 

The fact its renaming itself is indicative of a Virus. Do a check with whatever you have on your PC.

Get the NOD32 Trial from www.nod32.com and try that, it normally picks up more viruses than others i used.

 

I have the same problem. I am currently running McAfee and it has detected some files by optimize but I'm not sure it'll get rid of it. Ad-aware doesn't even recognize it. If you got rid of it please let me know how you did it.
