Can anyone possibly decipher this giberish? I'm having problems, but cannot seem to get to the bottom of it on my own. I'm getting this problem info and another one something about my mouse.

    Thanks in advance ...

It would be advisable to post such a long report as an attachment in future, even though it is still highly unlikely anyone would read the entire contents anyway

I apologize - I'm simply aggravated and frustrated here. Seems the old term "user friendly", has been "lost" ("manipulated") on many (most??) "users''. The technology seems to be vomited out more quickly than is practical.

    Hi

What is the error message or message you are getting about the spooler? Please do list the steps to recreate this issue.

Does it relate to a Lexmark printer? if so then you may need to uninstall the Printer drives and reinstall use the latest known Vista drivers for model of printer.

You could try this info http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm however, it needs care in what to do and delete, steps not to do in Vista until Bruce updates his page for this OS are

Do steps 1 ~ 5 IF the Print Spooler Service is set to Automatic and Started.

If the Spooler Service is not started, do Steps 6 ~ 9 BUT DO NOT delete Microsoft Shared Fax Driver or Microsoft XPS Document Writer and DO NOT DO steps 10 ~ 14 as Vista adds these files as default, then once finished install your Printer Driver ( make sure its latest one from maker and specifically for Vista )

I do have to add and I read this in one of your other threads in that you are tweaking the OS can have undesirable effects and likely services list in Vista, without fully understanding what each service does its very unadvisable to set them to manual or disable, many services have knock on effects with other services and dependances which can cause many errors and applications not working as normal, which is what you experiencing now.

I am afraid that this is EXACTLY what I may very well have done ... some months-ago. When I go to Control Panel>Printers, all I have there is "Add Printer". Not the Microsoft or XPS files. Although I am continuing to get the Windows error saying that the printer can't be started because the local spooler is not running.

I have reset the spooler service, the dependencies, and rebooted - to no avail.

Ok, Dell sent me five (5) CD's with this PC.

One is the McAfee Security Center which I've taken off of the machine, and replaced with other security programs.

Two are for DVD applications (which I don't understand why they would install both and then send CD's for both as well ... I suppose so I would have a choice??)

    4. Vista Home Basic Re-install
    5. Drivers & Utilities

Would this fifth (5th) CD replace the "Microsoft Shared Fax Driver" or "Microsoft XPS Document Writer" that I believe I may have deleted/uninstalled from this machine, and which I accordingly DO need to install my (second-hand) Lexmark AIO?

    Thanks ...
