spooler subsystem app failing

Hi, I have an epson r200 printer and its unning on windows xp prof sp2

My printer has started to fail, it keeps saying the Spooler SubSystem app has incountered a problem and need to close. I have tried removing the printer and reinstalling it but with no luck. are there any diagnostic tools I can run to see why this is happening or does anyone have any ideas?

Try running the system file checker:

START > RUN > SFC /SCANNOW

You'll need your XP CD.

Also are you positive that your spooler service is started?

START > RUN > SERVICES.MSC
Locate: Print Spooler and enable it to automatically start. Make sure you start the service.

ok, checked the services and I have a print spooler stared automatically.

Have tried the system file checker but it doesn't seem to work with either of the XP disc I have (which is strange as I'm sure I used them to install XP?)

Any other ideas?

Oh, I have since installed SP2, the disks would be SP1, would this make them not work?

 

Make sure you are entering the command correctly, it's SFC 'then a space', and /SCANNOW. Don't use your XP cd, just enter the command and go from there.

SFC /SCANNOW

Try it again. If you have the same problems move on to the steps below.

Make sure you have the show hidden files enabled by following the steps below:

1.On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.

2.Click the View tab.

3.Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.

Now do a search for the file hpzimn12.dll. If you find it, delete it and reinstall your printer.
