spoolkl.exe

Had a major problem with the TORVEL.B worm today. It was finally located in SVCHOST.exe, and SPOOLKL.exe. and erased.
Everything is getting back under control, except now, just before the desktop opens up, I get an error message saying Windows is unable to locate SPOOLKL.exe

Does anyone know what that is or what program it's associated with?

The worm put entries into your registry that need to be cleaned, of which spoolkl.exe is one. Here are Symantec's removal instructions:

Also item #1 "Disabling System Restore (Windows Me/XP)" would be a good idea, if you haven't already done that.


After that it would be a wise to run a Registry cleaner. Here is a good one:

Your suggestion for the Registry Cleaner was great. It found hundreds of useless / old items in there.
